Systematic biobanking for precision medicine in asthma and allergic diseases

Systematic biobanking for precision medicine in asthma and allergic diseases

Precision medicine is an emerging field gaining high interest due to the limitations of standard treatment options. The development of this field requires large numbers of high-quality biological material and related established data for omic analyses that enhance our knowledge of human health and disease. Biobanking is increasingly recognized as a crucial component supporting scientific breakthroughs in precision medicine. In fact, systemic biobanking of high-quality biological material for high throughput analyses, including genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics, microbiomics, and “cellomics”, requires the introduction of optimized protocols for material collection, transport, processing, and storage. Therefore, the Task Force aims to develop the guidelines and online training materials for good practice in systematic biobanking of different biological samples from asthmatic and allergic donors for multi-omic analyses. The task force forms a multidisciplinary group of recognized specialists from EAACI and beyond to contribute their expertise in biomaterial collection, processing, and storage, as well as omics research, data management, ethics, and law. Implementing the task force will enhance collaboration between EAACI sections, working groups, and junior members. The guidelines and online training materials will be an essential resource for our community and other researchers in allergy and asthma and beyond. This task force will, certainly, strengthen the reputation of EAACI as a leading society and platform for scientific communication and education in the field of allergy and immunology.
