Complications and Comorbidities associated with Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES)

This podcast is a 3-part series. The topics focus on the differentiation of HES and EGPA diagnosis, multi-specialty approach to diagnosis of HES and the complications and comorbidities associated with HES. Both HES and EGPA are rare diseases which are characterized by high blood eosinophil levels. The speakers will provide detail and clinical insight on the symptoms of both EGPA and HES and how to differentiate the two in practice; the importance of collaboration between health care practitioners for differential diagnosis and management of patients with HES; and the complications as well as the signs and symptoms of these complications.

Educational Outcome/Objectives

To gain clinical insight into:

  • the differentiation of HES and EGPA by understanding how these diseases present, the utility of a complete blood count with differential, differentiating from other diseases that may present with hypereosinophilia, and who to refer these patients to if they observe hypereosinophilia the importance of a multi-specialty approach for diagnosing and managing patients with HES and understanding why different specialists may be needed due to the heterogeneous nature of HES
  • the broad spectrum of complications associated with HES and potential comorbidities that can arise in patients with HES
