Better defining the roles of non-allergy specialists healthcare professionals in the management of allergic disorders
This TF therefore aims to describe the roles of allied healthcare professionals and primary care physicians who work in allergy and their complementary roles in the management of patients with allergies, to ultimately improve the care pathway for patient with an allergy diagnosis. The first port of call for many patients with allergies is primary care after which they are often referred to specialist services. In some countries there are limited specialist allergy services available, but there are allied healthcare professionals (i.e. nurses, dietitians, pharmacists) and primary care physicians that have and extended specialist role within allergy as well as significant experience. These roles and responsibilities are poorly defined and healthcare professionals are often not aware that such extended roles may exist.
