Diagnosis of fluoroquinolone hypersensivity

Diagnosis of fluoroquinolone hypersensivity

Fluoroquinolones can trigger both immunological immediate and non-immediate hypersensitivity reactions (HRs) as well as non-immunological HRs. They are the most common causative antimicrobial agents in inducing HRs among non beta-lactam antibiotics. All diagnostic methods used so far have various advantages and disadvantages. This task force is focusing on the mechanisms of all underlying hypersensitivity reactions due to fluoroquinolones. All current in vivo and in vitro diagnostic methods used in fluoroquinolone HRs are evaluated and the role of these tests in diagnosis are determined. An evidence based diagnostic approach for the hypersensitivity reactions du to fluoroquinolones will be established to guide clinicians in daily clinical practice at the end of this task force.
