Immediate and delayed hypersensitivity to biologicals in children – a practical approach
Immediate and delayed hypersensitivity to biologicals in children – a practical approach
Biologicals are products used in the treatment of several diseases (autoimmune, allergic, malign, inflammatory diseases, etc) both in adults and children. As for other drugs, adverse reactions can occur and the clinician has to be aware of such a possibility and should know how to manage patients when adverse reactions to Biologicals occur. Being relatively new treatments, the underlying mechanisms of reactions and the best management of children in case of reactions are not well known. The first aim of this Task Force is to practically discuss the management of immediate and delayed reactions to Biologicals in pediatric age by starting from what it this already known on this topic and by sharing different pathways of management between the experts of two interest groups: the Drug Allergy Interest Group (DAIG) and the Pediatric Interest Group. Another aim of this Task Force is to finally discuss with clinicians the different step by step pathways already published by the experts, during an interactive webinar where clinicians submit their queries and get advice on how to manage the different clinical scenarios. In conclusion, thanks to this Task Force, the personal experience of the experts and information already published in the literature will be translated into the clinical practice providing clinicians of an instrument to deal with reactions to Biologicals.
