Micronutrients
Micronutrients
Atopic diseases are associated with an exaggerated immune response to harmless antigens due to an untrained immunity, decreased microbial exposure, but importantly also with micronutritional deficiencies, particular of antioxidants, vitamins and trace elements. Importantly, intake of these micronutrient has been associated with the prevention and a decreased risk to develop atopic diseases and are important contributor to re-establish health. The taskforce aims to form a multidisciplinary group to collect and review current basic, pre-clinical, clinical and epidemiological research on micronutritional deficiencies in atopic diseases. Basic mechanism of immune modulation on a molecular and cellular level by these nutrients will be examined in the context of allergic diseases in which deficiencies exist as opposed the healthy situation. Opportunities to overcome and challenges associated for an optimal micronutritional support of allergics, with an inherent low-grade activated immune system, will be discussed. The common goal will be to create a comprehensive review leading to new recommendations and dietary guidelines to establish health.
