Weaning practices: a survey on the pediatrician’s approaches
Weaning practices: a survey on the pediatrician’s approaches
The survey on the routine weaning guidance of pediatricians in different countries, in both healthy and allergic children will investigate the link with the estimated prevalence of food allergy in the respective countries. Additionally, numerous risk factors will be identified and examined to contribute to food allergy or sensitization during weaning, including immutable risks (sex, race/ethnicity), genetics (familial associations), individual risk factors (atopic disease manifestations-comorbid atopic dermatitis [AD], hygiene, obesity) and diet (vitamin D, dietary fat, consumption of antioxidants, antacids (reducing digestion of allergens), obesity (being an inflammatory state), and the timing and route of exposure to foods (increased risk for delaying oral ingestion of allergens with environmental exposure in the absence of oral exposure leading to sensitization and allergy).
