Zoonotic diseases in our times
Zoonotic diseases in our times
Zoonotic diseases have gained relevance and attention in recent times, as evidenced by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which caused more than 500 million infections and more than 6 million deaths. More recently, the emergence of monkeypox virus, although with less severe clinical manifestations, also has important public health implications. In addition, different factors of modern life, such as globalization, pollution, interactions with animals or global warming, may suggest that the incidence of these diseases will increase in the future. In this task force, we aim to address this relevant topic, to improve our knowledge of zoonotic diseases from a holistic point of view. This will allow us to better understand the past and present of most relevant zoonoses, improving our ability to detect or even prevent such diseases in future. Besides, this task force aims to promote the engagement of junior scientists in the field of basic and clinical immunology field, which is essential for the future of our field. To this end, EAACI junior members with different professional expertise, will conduct comprehensive reviews, supervised by senior scientists, on monkeypox infection and zoonotic diseases in the 20th and 21st centuries. Past, present, and future perspectives. This multidisciplinary group of young scientists will promote an inspiring atmosphere in which topics will be discussed from different points of views, being stimulating and enriching.
